Call to Prayer: May 22, 2009
Crucial Event in the Fight for the Unborn Child
The Following letter is from HOB Zambian Missionary, Candace Walker
Please join us in prayer for this important conference

This weekend Bob and I will be traveling to the airport to pick up people from South Africa, Malawi and the US. Then on Tuesday we will be collecting people from Nigeria, Botswana, and DRC. Sara Rose Children's Foundation and their Crisis Pregnancy Center, Silent Voices, is teaming up with Life International to sponsor a Pro Life Conference next week here in Kitwe. I have been part of a leadership team to help with the details of the conference. When Mrs. Mwansa asked me to help I was willing to sign on because I believe in the cause, but I could have never imagined at that time how crucial this conference really is for Zambia right now. This is why we are asking all to join us in prayer over the next week.
Currently, abortion is not legal in Zambia. However we have found out recently that Planned Parenthood is strategically meeting with members in the medical communtiy to legalize the killing of these unborn babies and are even prepared to launch a campaign that states "Safe Abortions for only K10,000" or $2. We have also found out that the current law states that an abortion can be performed if it is going to cause any mental or physical harm to the mother and if 3 doctors sign in agreement. Kitwe Central hospital is using this law loosely already. We've found 3/4 of the women in the Gyn Ward are there for abortion and some still are not surviving. Needless to say, none of the babies are surviving. I went to meet with the Director of Planned Parenthood here in Kitwe to invite her to this conference. She seemed genuinely interested and was going to come. When I went back to collect her registration she said that she had just gotten word that during the Pro Life Conference, she had to travel to the capital city of Lusaka to attend a workshop on the 'qualities of unsafe abortion'. In reality, this workshop is the next step in their attempt to legalize 'safe' abortions. Bob is quick to say, "funny, I've never seen a safe abortion for a baby". The amazing thing is that no public official of Zambia has ever made a public statement on abortion. This has been the case because most Zambians are openly opposed to abortion and have a strong conviction that those developing embryos are human beings. It's been almost a non-issue, however, they are very impressionable by the influences of the US and the UN.
As you know President Obama has already sent the funding to these impoverished countries to get abortion legalized. Although people here struggle with poverty and do need counsel and direction in their developing families, they are acutely aware that abortion should not be an alternative. But without the Zambian people being aware of the campaign to legalize through parliament, there is no debate and those pushing for it can do so without a fight. Please pray that strategic people will come to this conference and be awakened to what is really at stake. Please pray that Zambia will not succumb to pressure from the US and President Obama. We feel privileged to be here for such a time as this.
We look forward to seeing the children from the orphanage perform a song at the conference. All of those children could have been aborted. The girls at the Maternity home will perform a drama, sharing that they chose not to abort and the boys at the ranch will perform a dance and share that they have chosen to abstain until marriage. The conference is scheduled for May 27,28 and 29th.
Please pray with us.
God Bless, The Walkers
